Positive Temperatures

Since the beginning of March, we’ve been dipping in and out of positive temperatures! All of the snow has fallen off the trees, and is starting to (dangerously) fall off the roofs. We can actually feel the warmth from the sun and we have a UV of 1! It feels exciting and sad at the same time, because I’m already nostalgic for the season and it hasn’t even ended yet.
Our superstar mum Bambi gave birth to 8 healthy puppies on the 1st of March - 4 males and 4 females. As a team, we are still deciding on names. They have almost doubled in weight in the first week (now weighing ~1kg each) but they are yet to open their tiny eyes. Patterns on their fur emerge more and more every day. For the first few days, Bambi was hesitant to leave them, but now she is begging to come outside for fresh air and stimulation every chance she can get. For people who know the dogs, Ulrik is the father of the litter.
I’ve also noticed a subtle shift in the energy of the dogs. The heatwave is starting again (where all of the females come into heat at the same time), which disrupts their feeding habits, and also those of the males (we joke that they skip meals to have ‘summer bodies’ for the girls). Since it’s getting warmer, they don’t like to run so far, or we have to make more breaks for them so that they can roll around in the snow to cool off. We are also starting to feed them less, although still 2x/day.
I’m looking forward to experiencing the midnight sun, and of course I’m grateful to stay north for as long as possible. I’m still considering my options for next season, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
